Which Essential Oils Are Really Essential To Your Health And Well-being?

I have been in the essential oils business for many years, so I have a lot of favorites. Before you read this just know that there is a lot of “greenwashing” out there. Not all essential oils are created equal. Look for non-GMO, no parabens, and no preservatives unless it is a natural organic preservative. Essential oils are plant based and are the specific plants natural preservative. In other countries, there are agencies that can certify essential oils. In the USA we are still working on that.

My first go-to essential oil is lavender. It is great for relieving the stressful feeling we all experience. It’s a natural antiseptic for minor bug bites, some minor rashes, and even clearing your sinuses when you are sick. If you are putting the lavender on your skin topically, mix it with a carrier oil (mild oil like coconut, grapeseed, almond, avocado or sunflower). To clear your sinuses purchase a cool air diffuser or simply boil some water add 5 – 10 drops of essential oil. Place yourself near or over the pot, be careful not to scorch yourself and just breathe.   The health benefits are many.

My second essential oil is orange or orange flower. Orange contains vitamin C and that is a powerhouse for your body, protecting your skin cell walls from anti-oxidants, keeping them firm and protecting collagen. A side benefit is that when orange or citrus hits your olfactory senses it stimulates your brain and the result is energy!

My third essential oil pick is white tea. It has incredible antioxidant properties and helps to calm the skin. Mixed with the right proportions it can reduce swelling and reduce dark circles under your eyes.

Last but not least, my fourth essential oil is peppermint. It is cooling, is stimulating to the brain and can act as an astringent. Mixed with a carrier oil or neutral lotion this can make your day!
